razorback2007-10-17-1192667524.jpgA legendary Hog football player has found a way to reach out to fans, and he's allowing other Arkansas Letterman do the same. Cliff Powell, all American Linebacker at the University of Arkansas in 1969, has a lot of incredible memories of his time with the Hogs, and he's working to get the message out that he, and other Lettermen, are willing to share them.
The Texas Shootout -- it's a day that Cliff Powell is still asked about frequently, some 40 years later. The National Championship slipped out of Arkansas' hands by one point that day back in '69, but Powell had never been more on top of his game.
"The strongest memory has to be the Texas Shootout, we lost to the Longhorns, but statistically, it was the best game of my career, and the last one," Powell says.
Powell doesn't mind when fans stop to ask him about his glory days. In fact, like many former Razorbacks, he welcomes it. So much so that he's created and copywrited a "Remember the Lettermen" shirt, displaying a subtle ice-breaker of a logo. The custom shirts, available to all Lettermen, display the school logo, player's number, the symbol for the sport and the years the player lettered. Powell says it's intended to let fans know that player is available and approachable for fan interaction.
Powell says about 150 Letterman have the shirt and orders are pouring in all the time. The shirts are about $50 and will eventually be available to Lettermen from other sports, and from other teams across the country. Keep in mind the shirts are only available to Lettermen. If interested in purchasing a shirt or investing in the concept, you can call Cliff Powell at 479) 236-6818.
