Wednesday night, the Marble City School Board met to discuss whether to accept superintendent Larry Couch’s resignation. Instead, it cancelled the meting.
School attorney, Rex Star, says Couch’s Attorney sent him a letter saying Couch will resign and pay back $100,000 if the board agrees to Couch’s terms. Those terms would save Couch about $20,000.00 in interest.
State Auditors say Couch may have taken more than $500,000.00
Most Marble City folks we talked to say they want Couch out and they want him to pay up.
Ellen McClendon, a concerned citizen, explains, “My granddaughter just graduated from here, and if he took what they say he took, he robbed her of the nine years that she was here and, you know, I want him to pay.”
So now it’s up to the State Board of Education. It’ll meet Thursday morning to decide if it should revoke Couch’s certification.
