Snow fell during a crucial period for certain crops and now farmers are paying the price. On March 12th of 2006 an f-3 tornado tore through parts of Benton county and on February 1st of this year, an ice storm left people without electricity. Then to top it off, after a week of 70 degree days in April, it snowed which destroyed some crops.
Benton County Judge Gary Black has called for a disaster declaration because of the damaged crops and emergency management workers are filing papers requesting financial assistance. If approved, the money would go to farmers who have lost their crops along with providing help for other businesses that rely on produce.
