Though it happened just under seven years ago, a shooting at the University of Arkansas still weighs heavy on the minds of faculty and staff. In August of 2000, a graduate student named James Kelly shot and killed his professor, John Locke, in his Kimpell Hall office. The massacre that occurred in Virginia today served as a tragic reminder of the event, but journalism professor Gerald Jordan says its never been too far from the schools thoughts. "You just remember the uncertainty and the chaos, wondering what could possibly be happening", Jordan said. The University of Arkansas released a statement offering condolences to everyone at Virginia Tech in light of todays shootings. Gerald Jordan says the events are as unexpected as they are tragic, but points out that nothing can adequately express the horror undoubtedly felt on the Virginia Tech campus today. Jordan said, "Parents dont send their kids to any school thinking well they might get shot....death in those numbers....words just fail me, even though I make my living using words. Im struck numb by that."
