We saw positive earnings from Johnson and Johnson, and 3M. Also out -- strong numbers from McDonalds, which encouraged investors.
As a result, the Dow added +23.45 (+0.22%) to close at 10,712.22. The NASDAQ added +16.78 (+0.75%) to finish at 2,265.25 and the S&P 500 added +3.04 (+0.24%) to close at 1,266.86.
Local stocks posted a mostly positive session. Tyson Foods (TSN) lost -3.94% to close at $15.83. JB Hunt (JBHT) added +1.52% to finish at $22.66. Axciom (AXCM) added +0.63% to finish at $23.78 and Wal-Mart (WMT) added +1.04% to finish at $45.72.
Oil prices fell -$1.04 a barrel to close at $67.06.
We have two earnings figures out today -- we`ll see December Existing Home Sales along with crude oil inventories for the week behind.
More big earnings out this session...We`ll see numbers from Acxiom, Abbott Labs, Ameritrade Holding, Bristol-Myer Squibb and ConocoPhillips.
Overseas in Asia last night, the Nikkei +1.1% to reach 15,826.04 at the mid-day break in Tokyo.
Back in the U.S., in extended hours trading, the NASDAQ 100 Afterhours Indicator rose +2.88 (+0.17%) to close the night at 1,689.1.
