The price of crude oil dropped $1.21 a barrel Wednesday to close at $56.85 on Nymex.
That didn`t do nice things to energy sector stocks -- some of which post earnings today.
The Dow lost -2.48 (-0.02%) to finish at 10,709.74. The NASDAQ lost -4.60 (-0.20%) to close at 2,260.65 and the S&P 500 lost -2.18 (-0.17%) to close at 1,264.68.
Local stocks posted mostly negative numbers. Tyson Foods (TSN) lost -2.15% to close at $15.49. JB Hunt (JBHT) lost -1.85% to finish at $22.24. Acxiom (ACXM) lost -1.09% to finish at $23.52 and Wal-Mart (WMT) added +0.55% to close at $45.97.
Today, we`ll see December Durable Goods Orders, Initial Jobless Claims and the December Help Wanted Index.
Again, a big number of very important quarterly reports today. We`ll see numbers from Microsoft, AT&T, General Motors, Lockheed Martin and Halliburton.
Overseas in Asia last night, the Nikkei added +1.2% at the mid-day break in Tokyo, reaching 15,834.64.
Back in the U.S., in extended hours trading, the NASDAQ 100 Afterhours Indicator fell -0.66 (-0.04%) to close the night at 1,676.34.
