Super Bowl Sunday Bring Super Profits for Some Businesses

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
Super Bowl Sunday brings in super profits for some businesses who consider the day one of their busiest of the year. Since Arkansas does not sell alcohol on Sundays, stateline stores were incredibly busy as were pizza makers and the staple of game day celebrations, the sports bar. Dozens of Arkansas residents crossed the border Sunday to pick up those last minute beverages. Customers of Don`s Stateline Store were not only stocking up on refreshments for the game, but they were taking their chances on Powerball tickets as well. Mark Edwards, Don`s Stateline: "It`s been pretty busy today. I didn`t expect people to be here as early as they were." Back in Fayetteville, Papa John`s General Manager Ted Peterson puts the finishing touches on one of the 1,000 pizzas his franchise will bake. Ted Peterson: "I would say its in the top 10 days of the year." In fact, pizza is the food of choice for the Super Bowl. The US National Restaurant Association says pizza makes up 58% of all takeout orders on game day. And of course no Super Bowl would be complete without some venturing to the nearest sports bar. Mark Wright, owner of On the Mark in Fayetteville, says business is booming. Wright: "Everybody wants to work on Super Bowl Sunday. Its a big money day, lot of fun, lot of noise. Its what a sports bar is all about."
