Snow Spurs Shoppers to Stock Up

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
Snow is headed for Northwest Arkansas, and it seems like everyone`s using today to prepare for the wintery weather. Of course, everyone has their own idea of what prepared means. KNWA`s Alexa Hamblin has the story. As the temperature drops and as the sun gets lower in the sky, more and more shoppers are filing into the stores. With the promise of snow, the forecast for sales at the grocery stores are promising. Everyone seems to be using today to load up on supplies that they may not be able to get out and buy later. Budgie Harris says he`s shopping now, so he won`t have to once the weather`s bad, "Hopefully you won`t have to make another trip especially when it`s bad, stock up and save." Most shoppers are working to make sure they`ll be well-fed and entertained, in the event it`s too icy to leave the house. Dede McGee is stocking up, "Soup, things like that. I`m out to get movies, things like that today -- going to the bookstore. I`ve seen a lot of people out everywhere." Of course, hats, gloves and various de-icing products are hot items today. McGee says, "We live in a wooded area so we`re going to need some stuff for our driveway and de-icers and stuff like that." While most people are going for hot and hearty foods like hot chocolate and oatmeal, others have their own ideas for staying warm. Peg Coffey says, "We just won`t get out. We don`t believe in getting out on the ice, so we`ll stay home and eat ice cream in front of the fireplace." Grocers expect their stores to become more and more crowded as the night goes on. I`m Alexa Hamblin... For KNWA... Northwest Arkansas news.
