American Idol host Ryan Seacrest says the judges sent more contestants to Hollywood in the season 11 premiere episode featuring singers from Savannah, Georgia - than any other city in the show's history.

"I remember the door kept opening and there were people sprinting out of it," says Seacrest. "I'd never seen that happen at that frequency."

And while the southern state gave reason for judges send so many to Hollywood, Pittsburgh also hit some high notes.

"You'd think when you've never been there before, what's this going to be?" says Judge Randy Jackson.  "Is this going to be any good? And I've got to say we were pleasantly surprised."

Although America is seeing Idol's nationwide auditions for the first time this week - the judges taped those shows months ago.  The production crew is actually in Las Vegas right now -- taping an upcoming episode inside the Le Reve Theater at Wynn. This theater has special effects not seen in most performance venues, and the Idol crew wasted no time trying them out.

"They get to see how Vegas can be or show business can be over the top and hopefully they will take their voices and put it together," says Judge Steven Tyler.
