For the next week, Northwest Arkansas will be the training ground for future Salvation Army officers.

A group of cadets will spend several days here getting hands on training at the local command center.

They'll learn about everything from running a shelter to a drug and alcohol rehab.

Once they complete the week they will graduate as lieutenants.

"We live in an ever-changing world.  The Salvation Army officers need to know and be well prepared to the tasks out there, how to deal with people, how to deal with this new generation," says Major Allan Hofer.

The training is part of a two year process to become a Salvation Army officer.
