Several weeks ago, the mayors of Rogers and Bentonville asked residents to conserve water on a voluntary basis. But last week the cities water problems got even worse. Brit Vance, director of Bentonville Water Utilities, says Bentonville and Rogers consumed over 28 million gallons of water last Wednesday...and over 26 million gallons on Thursday.
Tuesday, city council members in both cities approved making some changes to their already existing water ordinances-- so now the mayors have the power to turn the water on and off.
If the situation gets bad enough, Bentonville Mayor Terry Coberly and Rogers Mayor Steve Womack can enact mandatory water restrictions.
This means the even-odd system would become the required way of watering-- people with even numbered addresses could only water on even numbered days, and the same for those with odd numbered addresses on odd numbered days.
Since water use has recently decreased both cities remain under the voluntary even-odd conservation plan for now.
