High School Teacher Accused of Sexual Assault

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
"He seemed like a real nice guy... good family man and I enjoyed being around him," says Farmington School District Superintendent Ron Wright. David Warner was a social studies teacher for over a year at Farmington High School. But just recently-- he was charged with second-degree sexual assault for allegedly making sexual comments and having contact with more than one of his students. Like any other school, Farmington School District Superintendent Ron Wright says extensive background and reference checks were conducted on Warner. "If you have any hint of a red flag, we don`t bring them on campus... the risk is too great to your students." And because of that, Wright says they had no concerns. "Nothing alarmed us that this was going to be a difficulty at all." So that`s why Superintendent Wright says he was surprised and even disappointed when he heard the news about the sexual assault allegations. "I`ve been here for 30 years and I`ve seen a lot of things come down the pike. Some end up being true and you just hate that for your employee, for their family, the students involved, for the community and for your school." Wright says we`re in a day in age where these things will happen now, so it`s important to be vigilant. "I have three children and two grandchildren and I want to safe guard and protect those kids and I know that every teacher feels that same way." Now if Warner is convicted of sexual assault, that is a Class B felony. He could serve anywhere from five to 20 years in prison with a fine of up to $15,000.
