If told Tonya McCuistion 40 years ago that she would be teaching for most of her adult life, she would have called you crazy.

"I had originally thought that I would teach for two or three years and then maybe do something else," McCuistion said. "I just got so hooked on it. I just thoroughly enjoy teaching."

Ms. McCuistion teaches U.S. History at Farmington High School, and a lot of history has been made since she began.

Back in 1972, news of the Watergate scandal first broke. The final U.S. troops withdrew from Vietnam. The Dow Jones topped 1,000 for the first time ever.

Now, Ms. McCuistion is ready to move on like her students.

"There are students coming up that can clearly say I have taught their grandparents and I just can't quite face that possibility," she said.

Ms. McCuistion will have no regrets leaving Farmington High School after impacting so many lives.

"The teacher that is going to replace me, I taught," she said.

That ironic fact lets her know that her students are in good hands.
