Bentonville City Council Accepts Federal Funds for F.D. Airpacks

By: Kyle Leyenberger
Updated: April 24, 2012
The Bentonville Fire Department may be getting some new air-packs soon.

FEMA offered the fire department $142,000 to purchase new breathing devices, as long as the city pays for ten percent of the cost, almost $16,000.

The city council approved accepting the FEMA grant at Tuesday night's meeting, but according to Fire Chief Brent Boydston, any bids on airpacks must be approved before they're bought.

If the city council approves the purchase, the new airpacks would meet National Fire Protection Association standards updated in 2007.
