Local Angler Learns from FLW Pros

The world's best bass pros hit Beaver Lake bright and early this morning for the first day of the Walmart FLW Tour.

The pros are after a $125,000 prize, but local fisherman Wayne Dirck hit the lake looking to learn some tips and tricks.

"It's a phenomenal thing," he says. "It's too bad they only come once a year."

Dirck doesn't like to fish in the tournaments, but he's happy to have the FLW in town. He looks at it as a learning experience.

"I love coming out here and watching these guys and see how they can do this for four days in a row," he says. "I can find (fish) one day and the next day they're gone."

The tour started bringing the world's best anglers to Beaver Lake in 1996, but Dirck has been fishing here for more than thirty years.

"I love it," he says. "Not to eat or to destroy, just the pure part... the catch and release to me is what it's all about."

After three decades on the lake, Dirck says the pros have their work cut out for them.

"Beaver lake is all by her own little self," he says. "She's a different apple."
