A Virginia man is upset after his personalized license plate, which made a statement about Osama Bin Laden, was deemed offensive and replaced with a randomly assigned one that may have a different meaning.

Rick Sander's truck has a theme, he call "patriotic."

Sanders drove around with tags stating "FOSAMA" for almost seven years, but just two months from the expiration date the department of motor vehicles asked him to return it.

"This was sent certified letter to my house. I had to go to the post office and get it and I was thinking God what have I done now? What's wrong?" said Sanders.

The letter says the Department of Motor Vehicles made an error when they approved the plate.

The message is considered "profane, obscene or vulgar in nature" according to DMV guidelines.

Replacement plates came with the letter, and Sanders says he finds the message on them offensive.

They read "6668UP."

Sanders read the message as 'the devil ate you up.'

A spokesperson for the department of motor vehicles says the letter and word combination is chosen at random.

A DMV spokesperson says, judging by how long it's been since he registered, the change was probably prompted by a complaint.

"I definitely want another plate. I don't appreciate the plate they sent me. I would like the chance to pick my own," said Sanders.
