According to investigators, a Toyota Camry driven by Jimmy J. Christo Jr. made a left turn into the path of Landers' motorcycle.
Detectives say the motorcycle hit the right side of the Camry and ejected Landers across the hood of the vehicle.
The accident report says Landers was not wearing a helmet and the driver of the Camry was intoxicated.
Christo was arrested and charged with leaving the scene with serious injuries, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Lowell Mayor Eldon says Chief Landers was on vacation in Florida and his motorcycle collided with a car around 8 p.m. last night.
Landers was taken to the Bay City Memorial Hospital and his family is on the way to Florida now.
Mayor Long is holding a press conference Saturday at 4 p.m. at Lowell City Hall.
