Several Groups Raising Money for Injured Lowell Police Chief

The police chief of Lowell remains in critical condition after a motorcycle accident in Florida Friday night.
One of the Chief's friends says Joe Landers has always been there for her and her family. And now she wants to be there for his.
"He is a great friend, a dad, a grandpa, an uncle and a brother," said Ashley McGarrah, friend of Lowell Police Chief Joe Landers. The City of Lowell is praying hard for police Landers who was injured in a motorcycle accident Friday night.
"He has done so much for the community," said McGarrah. Investigators say a drunk driver pulled out in front of Landers' harley at a bike rally in Panama City, Florida. The Chief was thrown from his bike and is now suffering from a brain injury.
"He always has a smile," said McGarrah. McGarrah is now organizing a fundraiser raffle at Jose's in Springdale Tuesday night to help the family pay for hospital bills and traveling.
"Anything we can do we are willing to do," said McGarrah. McGarrah remembers Chief Landers' generosity, when her family needed it most.
"My husband got laid off a couple years ago. And Joe stuck his hand out and offered my husband a job," said McGarrah. And she recalls how Chief Landers lovingly interacts with her children.
"My daughter who is 8 likes to go to bike night at Joses and he will (Landers) sit and let her sit on his lap. He will watch over her and be a father figure to her." McGarrah hopes the community will now step up for one of their leaders.
"Why sit and worry when you can be proactive and do something and help the family out. God knows they need it," said McGarrah.
The Lowell Police Department has set up an account for donations in Joe Landers name at Arvest Bank.
Fast Lane in Lowell is selling $20 Chief Landers Fast Fun Cards. Each card costs $10and all proceeds go to the family.
On Tuesday, Jose's in Springdale will hold a raffle during Bike Night. The event starts at 6 and prizes include Naturals tickets and Walmart gift cards.
On Monday, Lowell police officers spent time in the community today getting donations from local businesses.
Hundreds have joined the Prayers for Joe Landers Facebook page.
