The State of Arkansas requires police officers to go through qualification once each year, but Corporal Eric Palmer of the Bella Vista Police Department says his department holds itself to a higher standard. Palmer runs the qualifications twice a year, and the firearms instructor includes combat shooting and night shoots in the program.
"It stokes confidence and proficiency," Palmer says. "We want to be able to give them everything they need to be both confident and proficient with their firearms on the street."
Palmer says each officer fires fifty rounds. He says every single member of the department goes through the qualifications, as well as some retired officers and concealed carry permit holders. The qualifications continue Tuesday.
