"These are young kids that are really amateurs in what they are doing right now and they get nervous," explains Jimmy. "And sometimes it takes the feel out of the song."
With four very distinct voices left to compete for the season 11 crown, Jimmy says it's anyone's to win.
"Joshua is really coming on strong," says Jimmy. "What he did with the song 'To Love Somebody is really hard to do' was impossible. He had never heard this song before, learned it, and it's like he wrote it. In fact he actually rewrote part of it."
Judge Randy Jackson says there are two distinct groups within in the top four.
"You got two of your best voices over there with Joshua and Jessica," says Randy. "The most different one is with Philip and then you've got Holly whose doing her thing and peaking at the right time."
As for who may get voted off this week, Jimmy says Phillip may be in danger
"I think Philip will need a push," says Jimmy. "Because some of the stuff he's doing is starting to sound the same."
And as for a frontrunner, Jimmy has his eye on two contestants.
"Jessica and Joshua are dangerous. They are a problem."
Other Idol notes:
Skylar Laine is the latest American Idol contestant eliminated from the competition, but the singer hasn't let being kicked off the show get her down.
"Being on Idol was an amazing experience," says Skylar. "Of course I wish I could have made it a little further, but fifth place is ok with me."
And it's official.
Brad Reed will be back reporting live from the red carpet at the year's finale. He'll be joined this year by Marissa Stevens for the Idol Edge Live in L.A.
