In North Carolina Friday Mitt Romney tried to change the subject away from same-sex marriage and back to jobs.

"We're on the verge of a manufacturing resurgence in this country. Jobs are going to come back with right policies," he told workers at a Charlotte pipe foundry.

Still, Romney's location kept the week's big issue, gay marriage, out front.

North Carolinians voted Tuesday to ban it, President Obama backed it on Wednesday, and on Thursday came the story that Romney allegedly bullied a boy thought to be gay 50 years ago when they were teens at a Michigan boarding school.

Romney claimed he doesn't remember.

"I did some stupid things when I was in high school and, obviously, if I hurt anyone by virtue of that, I would be very sorry and apologize for it," he said.

Meanwhile, President Obama cashed in on backing gay marriage.

At an event hosted by actor George Clooney Thursday evening the president was applauded when he announced he'd made news and his campaign took in a record estimated $15 million dollars .

On Friday the president went to Nevada, took credit for a program that's saving one family $240 a month on their mortgage, and demanded Republicans agree to expand it.

"I'm calling on Congress to give every responsible homeowners the chance to save an average of $3,000 a year by refinancing their mortgage," he said.

Still, a new USA Today/Gallup poll finds more voters trust Mitt Romney than President Obama to handle the economy.
