Gas Gouging in Arkansas

By:
Updated: January 7, 2009
Gas prices are now as low as they`ve been in five months, with the national average dropping eleven cents in the last week. In Northwest Arkansas, prices are some of the highest in our state. According to the Attorney Generals office, there has been no founded gas gouging cases in the State of Arkansas for at least the past three and a half years. Under Arkansas law, the price gouging statue only kicks in when we are under a state of emergency. We were under one last year with Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. Even when Arkansas is not under a state of emergency, the Attorney Generals office still monitors prices to make sure there is nothing outrageous or illegal going on. The Attorney Generals office says there is not an agency that regulates gas prices, so its what the market will bare under a free enterprise system. If Arkansas is not in a state of emergency prices are not set.
