The approval comes in response to a 2005 request submitted by the Department of Health and Human Services to increase reimbursements and provide more dental services to Arkansas children.
The new rate will be equaled to 95 percent of the Delta Dental Premier Fee Schedule. Under the amended plan, dentists will receive a 48 percent increase over current reimbursement rates.
In addition to the rate increase, more dental services have been added to allow Medicaid benefits to reflect the menu of dental services covered by private insurance.
DHHS has partnered with the Arkansas Dental Association to aggressively enroll new dentists into the Medicaid program and to encourage existing providers to accept more Medicaid clients.
Payments under the new rate will be retroactive to April 1, 2006. The Arkansas Medicaid program provides medical coverage to more than 400,000 children each year.
