Washington County Voters Reject Public Transit Tax Hike

According to the latest numbers, approximately 13-thousand people voted on the issue during Tuesday's Arkansas primary elections. Officials say 64-percent rejected the proposed quarter-cent sales tax while 36-percent voted in favor of it.
Proponents of the measure say the tax would have benefited the county by paying for better facilities, extra buses and expanded routes.
However, some of the people opposed to the ballot initiative voiced concern -- saying rural residents would be forced to pay for something they don't need or use.
