Aldermen voted 7-0 in favor of the five-lane plan which will expand the road from U.S. 71 west to Robins road and in another phase from Robins road to interstate 540.
The project is funded by a one percent sales tax approved in 2003 and should be completed by 2008 or 2009.
The estimated cost of the expansion is around 9.8 million dollars.
