Traveling Safe While Pregnant

Summer vacations are great for unwinding, unless you're "traveling for two".

There are a few things you need to know if you're going on vacation while pregnant this summer.

Jeanenne Tornatore, Senior Editor for Orbitz.com, says that before you book anything make sure you can actually get there.

"Some airlines allow women to travel up to 36 weeks, but it's important to check on your airline's website to see if they do have any specific restrictions," she advises.

Cruises can be much more strict.

Some cruise lines only allow pregnant women on board up until week 24 to 26 of pregnancy, and you often have to get a doctor's note proving you're healthy enough to travel.

As far as airport security body scanners go, the TSA website says they're safe for pregnant women, but if you're uncomfortable with them you don't have to use them.

You can choose a pat-down instead.

A few other of Jeanenne's tips:

- Get an aisle seat when flying. It's easier to get up and stretch your legs, and you know you'll probably need several trips to the lavatory.

- Consider a seat over the wing in the middle of the airplane. It's often the smoothest ride.

- Take help when offered.

"As a pregnant woman myself, I certainly have seen that people are more than willing to help with your bags, lifting them up into the overhead bins," she says.

You may also want to check out where the medical facilities are at your destination and take copies of your pregnancy records with you, especially if you're in your third trimester.
