On Friday, the American Red Cross hosted its "Be A Good Cookie Blood Drive."

As part of the event, The Ernie Keebler Goodness Award was presented to Bill Mendenhall of Fayetteville who served as a volunteer with The Red Cross for more than 30 years and has regularly donated blood. Blood Drives like this one are important especially with 50,000 fewer blood donations than expected in the month of June.

American Red Cross spokesperson, Alan Gibson Says, "The need for blood is constant.  Every two seconds somebody in the country needs blood. We are in a summer blood shortage right now. We are on a national appeal."
