QB-Tyler Wilson (on getting back on the field) -"You want to be out there. You really want to be out there. I wouldn't say it's a black-white thing at this point. It was last week, absolutely. It was a no last week. You consult with both the doctors we've got here that are provided for us, great doctors. I was able to go see the best ones too. I think that in that that's where you get the back and whiteness."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on if anyone talked to him about the long-term effects of playing) -"You had some of that, but the deal is you've got to play football. That's why I came back. I'm not going to risk my complete health, but when I feel good enough to play, and I feel good right now, I feel a lot better, and I think it will continue to get better, I'm going to be out there on the field."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on his symptoms last week) -"Symptoms wise it was more than just a headache. You take tests and the tests don't lie. You do a number of things. I didn't feel like my 100-percent self. It's not going to the doctor, it's doing certain drills and exercises to get my mind rehabbed a little bit I guess you could say. They put me through a pretty good amount of stuff here and it's made me better."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on participating in warmups before the game last week) -"I
think it was something that was another step towards my process. I went
out on Wednesday last week and I felt good. I felt really good. I threw
the ball around well. That wasn't the issue. It was the issue of 'Can
he take a hit still and be OK?' I thought
that was another step to go out and exercise and doing the things I
need to do mentally out there on the field. Seeing the defense do those
things and adjusting. I think it was good for me to go out there
pregame. You only get to go out there 12 times a year
to go out there pregame and kind of get into the routine, so it was
good for me. I was all for that. It was good for me to be in a position
where I could pat my teammates on the butt when I need to and be a
cheerleader. All those things were good."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on the next steps to getting back on the field) -"Last
night we came in and ran. I ran as normal just like everybody else did.
We had a team meeting and a number of things were addressed by Coach. I
went into the position meeting
just as normal and then we ran and afterwards I talked to the team for a
bit and said some things about where I thought we needed to go from
here and what we need to accomplish during the week in mindset and
mentality. Because it got us to the position that
we were in a year ago and a couple years ago and things that were
keystones in our success. Those things were addressed and I think we all
agreed on. I think we are at a good point moving forward and we have
practice tomorrow and it's got to be really good."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on the results of his last test) -"I took one this morning and the results were much better than the previous time. Much, much better, almost real similar to baseline. That for me is very, very positive for my probability for this week. I told those guys last night that I'm going to do everything I can do to get back to playing quarterback for this team this week."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on his comments after last week's game) -"It was tough for me to go out there into that room and say some things that I said when I wasn't out there on the field. I completely understand that, but I was going into that room not to speak to the team, but to speak to the people because I'm an Arkansas kid and I know how much it means to me growing up, to a lot of the guys in this room, to a lot of the fans in the stands to see that display out there on the field, the product we displayed, and it's tough. I wanted everybody to know that that's not acceptable here and that going forward we are going to do the best we can, and I'm going to do the best I can to keep everybody together, to display a much better product out there on the field period."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on how teammates reacted to his comments after last week's game) -"I
didn't point anyone in particular out. That is one thing I will never
do. There were certain situations in the game where I saw some things
and I just think as a whole it needs to get better, and I would have
done the same thing if I was out there and playing.
There were times early in the ULM game that I did things wrong. It
doesn't go back to anybody in particular on the team it's us as a whole.
We've got to get better. We've got to do things right. "
QB-Tyler Wilson (on the attitude of the team) -"One thing
we talked about is attitude and I think we've rubbed that raw, but it's
true until we do it. What I talked about was there were times it seemed
that we'd call a play at the line of scrimmage
at practice and run it and run it like we're in sleep because we've
done it so long and you never know when it's going to be the play that
determines the game. You never know if you don't convert on third down
you don't turn it up the sideline and get the
first down that the next ball snapped over the head and a number of
things. It's a chain reaction in this game so you have to approach
practice like every play is on the line. That was a big part of what I
said last night and that's the way we have to approach
practice is that every play in practice means a significant amount and
if we can do that we'll be right back where we were. It's the attention
to detail and it's the attention in practice in preparation that we got
to get back to."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on QBs Brandon Allen and Brandon Mitchell vs. Alabama) -"At
times they did a really, really good job. If I put myself in the
position that Brandon Allen was in as a redshirt freshman. I'm not sure I
could have even done what he
did out there. I sent him a text last night and I said, 'Man you did a
pretty good job and I'm proud of you.' That was a tough situation there
to be put in. Like I said, I'm going to do the best I can to get back. I
think if they're put in that same situation
they'll be better because they'll be a little more versed. Going in to
doing some of the option stuff, it'll be the second week doing that.
It'll be better if they're out there. I expect that I will be out there.
I expect that."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on if he has any concerns returning from his injury) -"It's
what it is. It's the way it's going to be from now on, I know that. I
don't think you change the way you played the game since you were a
little kid. It's the way you
play the game. Unfortunately, the second game of the year, both years,
I've had kind of a similar occurrence. We went on from that game last
year, when a lot of people were questioning whether I could stay healthy
the whole year. We go on and have a great
year. There are a number of things that are very similar to this point
last year. It just happened we played Troy the weekend after I was out
last year, as opposed to Alabama."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on preparing emotionally) -"I'm
not going to go out there on the field unless I'm able to give
everything that I've always been able to give. So if I'm healthy, I'm
going to run out there and do what I've always done. I'm not going to
approach the game any different. Maybe there will be
a little bit, game one and two it was like play those guys as the
underdogs, in your eyes and in our eyes. So you maybe approach that a
bit differently. Now, you feel like your backs are against the wall a
little bit. So let's go fight. Maybe that's difference
in the way you approach the game. I know that's the way I'm going to
approach it. I have my whole life, so why not."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on watching the Alabama game from the sidelines) -"To
describe the feeling, I said another word in the press conference, but
it stinks. It stinks. You want to go out there and play. There's a
reason why you go out there and prepare
in the hottest days of the year to play in the coldest months,
everybody talks about that. But you practice your tail off to go out
there and work hard to get out and be able to play. And when an
environment is that awesome in this stadium, when you have that
many people show up, and they've all got towels going, that's why you
play. When you walk out there pregame, I almost wanted to say, 'Give me
my helmet, and I don't care what anybody said, I'm playing.' I really
felt that. So yeah, it did stink."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on if it was scary not to be ready to play one week after the injury) -"I don't think it was scary. I had enough people tell me that I'm going to be back to where I need to be. It's just a matter of time. From that perspective I knew I would be alright. I just need to do the things I have to do to get back."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on appreciating the small things) -"You
take that for granted sometimes. I know I did. It's something I can
deal with. It's a lot better than a lot of other people's situations.
It's just a minor blip in the system. We'll get it back going."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on if he was able to watch the second half vs. ULM) -"I
was in the training room the entire game. I could hear when the stadium
was dead quiet, and at the end of the game I had some understanding of
what was going on in the game. Although I wasn't all there, I knew what
had happened. From that point it was precautionary,
'Let's get you to the hospital, let's get you checked out.' And they
said, 'Let's stay the night, because it's a two hour drive back,' and a
number of things. I wasn't on my deathbed. It's just a two-and-a-half
hour drive back, let's keep you here for the
night, get looked at, and drive back tomorrow morning."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on whether it was cumulative hits or just one hit that caused the injury) -
"I don't know, I really don't know."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on his level of confidence that he will be medically cleared for Rutgers) -"I'm extremely optimistic. Extremely optimistic. Just have to get those guys to say yes."
