Drug Recall

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
11 million bottles of acetaminophen pain reliever sold under several store brands are being recalled after the manufacturer found trace amounts of metal particles in the caplets. Thursday the Perrigo Company announced a voluntary recall of their 500 milligram strength acetaminophen pills. FDA officials say there have been no reports of injuries or illness, and they believe the chance of a serious adverse event is "remote." If a consumer swallows one of the affected pills they may have minor stomach discomfort and cuts to the mouth and throat. KNWA contacted Wal-Mart and they issued this statement. "We have already blocked the sale of this product at our registers and have pulled it off our shelves." Perrigo is asking consumers to check the recalled batch numbers on the FDA website, fda.gov and compare them to the numbers on their pill bottles. If customers have questions or concerns you can call Perrigo`s Consumer Affairs Department at 800-321-0105. Perrigo reported to the FDA that 70 million caplets were passed through a metal detector and 200 caplets contained metal fragments.
