PurpleLight Vigil Honors Pancreatic Cancer Victims

By: Liz Hogan
Updated: September 30, 2012
Rogers turned purple Sunday night, to call attention to one of the deadliest forms of cancer.

The local chapter of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network held a PurpleLight Vigil for Hope at the Pepsico Offices in Rogers.

Group members want to raise awareness about the disease, as well as remember and honor pancreatic cancer victims.

"Pancreatic cancer is so underfunded, when it comes to research it's the least recognized.  We need more awareness for this cancer, it's one of the deadliest cancers with the survival rate still in the single digits," said Dana Quinn, NWA Community Representative for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

According to the organization, there are no early detection methods for pancreatic cancer and few effective treatment options.

Similar vigils were held in communities across the country Sunday.

This is the second year for the event.
