South Fayetteville Seeing New Business, Home Development

Change is in the air for South Fayetteville.
"This area will see a large transformation going forward over the next two years," Todd Jacobs, co-owner of Jacobs + Newell Company said.
As new businesses likes Starbucks pop up and homes continue to develop along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
"I think a lot of it is also being driven by simply new students, population growth there, and it seems to be a very attractive place for developers to build both multifamily and single family housing currently," Jeremy Pate, Director of Development Services said.
Home builders like Todd Jacobs who have purchased lots to develop throughout South Fayetteville.
"You have the ability to walk, ride your bike, you don't need your car on a daily basis. So that gives you a freedom that you can't find in most places," Jacobs said.
"It's a sort of a funky part of town still, but it still has that draw. Still close to downtown, you can walk to the square for farmers market, you can also jump on the trail and get right to the university,"Pate said.
But the new properties also present obstacles for the city.
"Our challenge is to balance that with the keeping the traditional house stock and keeping housing affordable so obviously that's something we'll be looking at, but right now I think it's, we're certainly supportive of what's going on down there," Pate said.
The action won't be slowing down anytime soon. These guys said this is only the beginning.
"I think there's still a lot of opportunity in South Fayetteville and I think as folks see the change over time and see new investment that generally attracts more investment," Pate said.
"Our company is highly invested in this area. We think it's probably one of the best assets or under used assets Fayetteville has to offer," Jacobs said.
