Farmer's Market Looks to Expand

From April through November, folks can catch vendors on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings on the Fayetteville square. Customers can also shop at The Botanical Gardens on Sundays.
However, the Fayetteville Farmer's Market wants to add markets on Wednesday mornings at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks.
"Truthfully, the farmers need more venues. We need to get the kind of products that you see here out to he public," said farmer Mark Cain. "We've often thought that an afternoon market would be convenient for people that could slide in and pick something up on the way home from work, rather than coming down here in the morning when they have to go to work."'
Vendor Bill Taylor isn't up for the extra day of work.
"It would just be impossible for me. It wouldn't be possible. Just the extra trip in gas and it's just not going to be as much volume in sales as we do here at the square," said Taylor.
The square is packed through and market manager Teresa Mauer said the expansion would free up some space.
"We have more vendors than space right now so the garden is a place that we thought was logical for expansion and it allows people to have more selling time on the weekend when we maybe can't fit them in at the square," said Mauer.
So will "America's Favorite Farmer's Market" soon be bigger and better?
"My hope is that it goes through smoothly and then we have another opportunity to offer the city a new market opportunity," said Mauer.
