Ark. - Sophomore BJ Young of the University of Arkansas basketball team was named a preseason third-team All-American by Sporting
News Magazine it was announced this week.
Young is the first Razorback to earn preseason All-America honors
since Ronnie Brewer who was appointed to two preseason teams prior to
the 2005-06 season. As a true freshman, he led the Southeastern
Conference in scoring for a first-year player at 15.3 points per game
and shot better than 50 percent from the floor. Never
shying away from the spotlight, Young averaged 20.0 points, 3.5 rebounds
and shot 52.4 percent against ranked teams in 2011-12.

had this to say about Young, "Young flirted with the NBA Draft after a
stellar freshman season, averaging 15.2 points in just under 25.2
minutes per
game. He shot 55.2 percent on his 2-point attempts and 41.3 percent
from beyond the arc in coach Mike Anderson's first year with Arkansas."
Joining Young on the preseason third-team are Jamaal Franklin of San
Diego State, Peyton Siva of Louisville, Trey Burke of Michigan and
Adonis Thomas of Memphis. Other preseason All-Americans named by
Sporting News include Cody Zeller (Indiana-1st
team), Doug McDermott (Creighton-1st team), James Michael McAdoo (North Carolina-1st
team), Deshaun Thomas (Ohio State-1st team), C.J. McCollum (Lehigh-1st
team), C.J. Leslie (NC State-2nd team), Michael Dixon (Missouri-2nd
team), Shabazz Muhammad (UCLA-2nd team), Alex Poythress (Kentucky-2nd
team) and Isaiah Canaan (Murray State-2nd team).
The Razorbacks open the 2012-13 season with Primetime at the Palace
on Friday, October 12. Doors to the event open at 8 p.m. with
activities beginning at 9 p.m. Arkansas' first regular season game is
slated for Friday, Nov. 9.
