"A counselor's day, you can't really exactly structure it. It's going to be different everyday, you never know what's going to happen," Emily Farley, a Bentonville High School counselor said.

A senior girl from Bentonville High School is in critical condition after being hit by a school bus full of high school and junior high students Thursday around 4 PM. At only 17 years old she faces life-threatening injuries and Farley said these types of situations bring out students' emotions.

"Sometimes that kind of thing triggers other emotions in students and things that they may not even talk about that specific issue, but they're there to talk to the councilor about some things that are going on with them," Farley said.

Farley said sometimes it can be a harsh look into reality for high school students.

"It's those life issues that can be very hard, you know at the age that we work with, the ninth through twelfth grade. That's an age when you're becoming much more aware of yourself and your world."

Though the school did not need to bring in additional counselors today, Farley said they're always available.

"We always have that option. If we start to see a lot of students coming in that have a great need, we as a district can contact the rest of the schools and have them send other counselors up."

Overall, the school family is just hoping to see her back in the hallways soon.

"Just wishing her the best and hoping for a swift recovery, and we'll be here for the kids if they need us," Farley said.
