Arkansas State Police have released the name of the man killed in an officer involved shooting in Russellville.

It happened Friday afternoon when officers from the Russellville Police Department were called to 412 W. I Street.

According to state troopers, Walter Hirsch, 54, who lived at the home, met police on the front porch with a pistol.

Investigators say he aimed the gun at the officers as they walked up to the house.

One officer shot Hirsch, wounding him.  He was taken to a Russellville hospital where he died.

Since an officer is involved in the shooting, the Russellville Police Department asked the ASP Criminal Investigation Division to investigate the incident.

ASP says police were called to the home twice on Friday before the shooting.

The second call was in response to a report that someone had fired a gunshot into a window of the home.

The third call, which resulted in the officer involved shooting, came from a Crisis Hotline service reporting police assistance may be needed at the home.

ASP will continue to investigate the shooting death and will file a report with the county prosecuting attorney.
