QB-Tyler Wilson (on completing 22-of-29 passes with no touchdowns at Auburn) - "I'll take no touchdowns with a win any day of the week. You smile. That's a positive. We got a win, and it was very encouraging. I think you don't want to look forward, and we've got Kentucky this week, but there's a number of games coming up where we can get a streak going and put this back together. That was big for us."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on the defense and offense complimenting each other) - "All three phases did. We flipped field position with special teams, there were no errors there. The defense did a tremendous job. Offensively we were able to drive the football. Now, we need to continue to do a better job inside the red zone, that's been a struggle for us. We have to get better. We made enough things happen to put 24 points on the board and do some things."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on the number of injuries the team has had this season) - "I was looking a little bit at that last night, but we've always prided ourselves on having people that can come in and step in. Because of how hard we work in the offseason, because of pressure that's put on guys in meetings to understand what we're doing, even in the backup spots. There's always a little bit of drop off when you go to the next in line. That's the difference in a great team and other teams - how quickly you can fill that gap. We did a tremendous job on Saturday of doing that, and we'll continue to do that."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on turning the season around) - "Wins, that's where you start. You can rattle a few wins together. We have an opportunity to do that against Kentucky. There was a streak there of four straight losses. You don't want to dwell on that, but it's there. We're going to put some wins together."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on the differences coming off a win) - "It's like night and day. The confidence, everybody's mindset in the locker room and on the plane, guys feel better about themselves. Consequently, they practice harder. They believe in what we're doing and what we're trying to accomplish as a team. All of that helps. That's where I'm excited going forward, is that you see that belief back in a few people's eyes."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on TE-Austin Tate) - "We did some things with play action, and that allows him to be one or two in a lot of the progressions and get it in his hands. That's what they gave us, and we gave it to him. On the first drive he made a really good catch and run towards the goal line. He did some really good things for us. Austin is a guy that I played against in high school at Harrison High School, and I've known forever. He's continued to get better and better. I'm excited that he's filled in and made some plays."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on the running game) - "Dennis (Johnson) did an incredible job. Dennis is able to absorb that first blow and fall forward and get you two or three yards to put you in a better position on first down so you're not losing three yards, you're gaining two so it's 2nd-and-8. That's the big thing with Dennis; if there's nothing there he can will you a couple of yards. That's huge. Dennis is a competitor, he fights, and I love the way he plays football. He gives us a spark when he's in there."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on dealing with adversity) - "In terms of wins and losses, you don't expect a start like this. There's always different ways you can look at things. I've always looked at it in the positive way. Handling some of what we've dealt with will help me down the road. Understanding it, whether it is in life or in football, it will help you deal with it. It's not how we wanted it to turn out. Obviously, we want to win every football game, but you learn a lot about yourself, you learn a lot about your team, and how to get through to guys when things aren't going just as you planned. That's how I'm looking at the past five months. There's a lot that I can grow as a person and as a leader through learning. Now, there's no excuse for why we can't go forward and win some games learning from that."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on if he felt he was more patient at Auburn) - "Absolutely. One thing that I really focused on was that I decided I'm not going to be distracted by anything else that's going on. Coach (Petrino) being up in the box, I had the headset on the sidelines. I threw a towel over my head and said 'I'm focusing on me, and what I do, and I'm going to get us in a position where we can win.' I wrote down on my goal sheet and gave it to Coach Petrino that I have to be at 70-plus percentage passing for us to have a shot. I think that puts us in a better position. What I did during the game patience wise, or just being smarter at times, was to be focused on everything I have to do. If the play wasn't there, not throw it away, but you get three yards, and you put yourself in a better position on second down. And your completion percentage goes up. That, and being patient. We call a shot to Cobi (Hamilton) that's not there so we check it down and live to play another day. Punt for field position instead of making an errant throw there. I think that's been better."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on Offensive Coordinator Paul Petrino being in the press box) - "The fact that he was in the box calling plays gave us a tremendous advantage in terms of things he was able to see. Having the headset on and understanding the things they were saying helped me out through the game."
QB-Tyler Wilson (on LB-Alonzo Highsmith's injury) - "He's a tremendous player. He's a vocal leader defensively. It's always heartbreaking when you lose a guy that you care about and like as much as I like Alonzo. He'll be out there in spirit in terms of rallying the guys. Obviously it's tough for him, but he'll come back and do what he can to help defensively in terms of leadership. We have some guys that will hopefully step in, fill the void, and do a good job."
