Police have released new details from the bus accident that seriously injured a 17-year-old Bentonville High School student.

The Bentonville Police Department said the teen was not using a signaled crosswalk as she tried to cross the highway Thursday afternoon.

The school bus, number 48, was driven by Lisa Fitzner, 60, of Bentonville. There were 24 children on the bus at the time of the accident.  The bus was passing through this intersection on a green light when the accident happened.  The teen was headed north at SE 14th Street and SE P Street and attempting to cross SE 14th Street.

This investigation is continuing and efforts are currently being made to further reconstruct the accident, according to police.

On Monday, hospital officials upgraded the girl's condition from critical to serious.  She is receiving treatment at St. John's Medical in Springfield, MO.

The 17 year old pedestrian is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment.

The bus driver was been suspended with pay pending the investigation, according to the Bentonville superintendent, which is school policy.
