House Fire Claims One Life and Sends Two Van Buren Police Officers to the Hospital

Around 11am a house on North 25th caught fire. Officers broke out a bedroom window and crawled inside to try and save the elderly lady who lived there, says Lt. Stephen Staggs.

Staggs says the two officers saved the lady from the burning house but it was too late. She had already died. The two officers were taken to Summit Medical Center and are being treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen.
