Police Clarify Earlier Statement on Bus Accident

Updated: October 16, 2012
The Bentonville Police Department has clarified some points to a report they released Tuesday about the school bus accident that seriously injured one teen.

The October 9th press release detailed last week's accident, involving a school bus and a 17 year old student who was hit as she tried to cross the street

Police said the "release was made in an effort to update the community on the status of the investigation. Yesterday's release also stated, 'This investigation is continuing and efforts are currently being made to further reconstruct the accident. These efforts should provide a better determination of possible contributing factors for the aforementioned driver and pedestrian.'"

In Wednesday's statement, police once again stated the investigation is ongoing and remarked that "the police department's task in any accident investigation is not to determine fault, but instead to identify factors that may have contributed to the accident's occurrence.  Likewise, the goal of this school bus and pedestrian accident investigation will be to determine any driver and pedestrian actions--as well as any other conditions-- that may have contributed to the accident."

According to police, Tuesday's report wasn't intended to offer information about who was at fault.

Coming up tonight, Cassidy Hodges will talk to one witness who says the police report is wrong.
