United Way Needs Volunteers for Tax Prep Sites

By: Cassidy Hodges
Updated: January 9, 2013
The United Way of Northwest Arkansas is looking for volunteers to prepare income taxes.

And if you aren't an accountant, don't worry!

Training is free and flexible with online classes.

According to the United Way one hour of help can mean 1,300 dollars for a family.

They are also looking for non-tax related volunteers if math isn't up your alley.

For those not interested in serving as a tax preparer, there are also non tax-oriented volunteer positions, including client greeter/screener roles, site assistants, site leaders, translators, financial resource specialists and IT managers.

Volunteers who speak Spanish and Marshallese are also greatly needed.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites help low and middle-income families prepare their income tax forms and other tax credits while avoiding fees associated with commercial preparers. By becoming a VITA volunteer you are helping these hard-working families file returns to help fix their cars, pay for medical bills and support their families.

For more information, and to volunteer, please call Holly Hill at the United Way of Northwest Arkansas at 479-750-1221
or e-mail her at hsparks@unitedwaynwa.org
