Bentonville Student Hit by a Car

A Bentonville boy is suffering from what police are calling "life-threatening injuries" after being hit by a car Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened near the intersection of Central and J Street around 4 p.m., according to Mary Ley at Bentonville School District.  The 12-year-old Washington Junior High School student, was taken to Northwest Regional High School. He was later life flighted to St. John's in Springfield, MO  The condition of the student is not known at this time. 

Police said the student was crossing north to south before being struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound. Bentonville police are investigating.

It was exactly two weeks ago that a 17-year-old Bentonville student was also struck by a vehicle while crossing an intersection.

A Bentonville bus driver witnessed the incident and made a call to first responders.

The intersection is part of an apparent construction zone, and signs posted in the area show that the speed limit is anywhere between 35 and 40 miles an hour.

Police have not yet released information about the vehicle involved.

Bentonville Michael Poore visted the boy's family shortly after the incident.

"Just seeing folks at the hospital, the police officers that have been involved, you know, all that takes a toll on folks, it's kind of mind boggling that we're having to go through this a second time in such a short span of time," says Bentonville superintendent Michael Poore.
