By: Jonathan Martinez
Updated: November 1, 2012

A new statewide broadband network has started operations in Washington County.

The "Arkansas e-link" was demonstrated at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville today and will connect dozens of schools and hospitals across the Arkansas.

The new system will allow patients to share real-time data and readings with doctors by video conferencing.

It will also help with distance learning for students at UAMS and several other schools.

The system was created with a $102 million grant awarded back in 2010.
