A few cans can help keep you out of trouble with one local library.

The Fayetteville Public Library is hosting "Food For Fees" week starting November 12.

If you have any overdue books or other items, you can knock a dollar off your fines for every canned or boxed food item you bring in this week!

The donations will benefit the Cooperative Emergency Outreach and Feed Fayetteville.

"We don't want overdues to prevent someone from using the library and being able to check out items and this wy we can help our library patrons and get these accounts in good standing and we can also help our neighbors at the Cooperative Emergency Outreach," says Denise Wax, the library's circulation manager.

Items especially needed include:

  • peanut butter
  • canned tuna fish or chicken
  • beans
  • canned soup or fruit
  • cereal

"Food For Fees" week lasts through Sunday, November 18, and even if you don't have any past due fines, you can still drop off a donation!

The Fayetteville Public Library is located at 401 W. Mountain Street.
