Arkansas Joins States Petitioning for Secession

By: KNWA News
Updated: November 12, 2012
Arkansas has joined the list of at least 20 states requesting secession from the United States in the wake of President Obama's reelection.

The whitehouse.gov petition requests that the Obama Administration "Peacefully grant the State of Arkansas to withdraw from the United States and create its own new government."

Petitions on the site need at least 25,000 signatures within 30 days to become eligible for an official response from the White House.

So far, nearly 7,000 people have signed the Arkansas petition. Some of the signatures are from different states.

Other states with secession petitions on the site include Alabama, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi and Oklahoma.

A petition from Texas surpassed the 25,000 mark after less than three days.
