A Northwest Arkansas educator was honored with a prestigious award on Tuesday.

Principal Pam Camper, from Russell D. Jones Elementary School in Rogers, received the Terrel H. Bell award for Outstanding School Leadership.

The honor was announced during the 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award ceremony in Washington D.C.

Camper is known as being committed to successful teaching and learning at her school and for doing whatever it takes to help students meet high standards.

The students made sure to show their appreciation with handmade cards, signs and posters.

"More than for myself, it's for everybody in the building and everybody who has been here over the years who have gotten us where we are. All of the businesses and civic organizations, we have lots and lots of volunteers and assistants that enable us to be able to do for children what we do," said Principal Camper.

Across the nation, only seven educators were chosed to receive the prestigious award.
