The USDA will award just over $99,000 to Fayetteville Public Schools as part of more than $4.5 million in grants to increase local foods in eligible schools.

FPS has been developing a farm to school program since 2005. FPS says they will use the grant money to help expand and institutionalize a sustainable farm to school program. A project that will have, not just health and wellness benefits, but will support local economy by working with area farmers to provide a food source.

The program will include educational events where kids will learn through experience and will integrate local products onto the school menu on a regular basis throughout the school year.
