Friday and Saturday Fayetteville police took children shopping for the "Shop With a Cop" program.
Officers shopped all afternoon with 141 kids at the two Fayetteville Wal-Mart locations, putting the money they raised for the program to good use.
Each child gets one-hundred dollars to spend in the store.
"We like to make sure they get their essentials, clothing, socks, shoes, then we allow them to get $25 of toys," says officer Leonard Graves.
The police department selects the kids from letters sent in from their school counselors.
And there were extra toys to go around this year.
"We`ve partnered up with "Christmas for Kids" and they`ve provided toys for the children also, so they`ll not only get our toys, but they`ll get other toys from another program."
Police officers say the program wouldn`t be a success year after year if it wasn`t for the giving spirit of the people of Northwest Arkansas.
"I just want to thank the community for their support for this program. It`s been around here for at least 13 years and it wouldn`t have been around this long if the community hadn`t been willing to support us."
