Meningitis Death Has NWACC Scrubbing Campus

An NWACC student is dead after contracting meningitis. Now, the school is taking precautions to protect others on campus.
The NWACC campus is reeling from the loss of a classmate after he died from meningitis on Sunday night. School administrators were notified Monday and the school immediately began tracing his last known locations on campus. NWACC has checked into the student's class schedule, notifying teachers and classmates. Crews have already disinfected high traffic areas like hallways and the main computer lab.
Police identify a man stabbed in Rogers Sunday night. It all happened, investigators say, after Jacob Merriman got into an arguement outside an apartment complex on East Post Road. Officers say he was stabbed several times before being taken to the hospital. Merriman is listed in stable condition. Meantime police are still searching for the man they say is responsible for the crime.
An injured state trooper, and a four car pile up, all caused by one man according to Springdale police. Officers say Dennis Bree was driving recklessly near West End and Sunset last week. That's when they tell us an off-duty State Trooper tried to arrest him. According to officers, Bree kicked the trooper in the groin and took off. Police say Bree sped right through a red light on Sunset, causing a four-car accident. Officers managed to arrest him afterward. He now faces a slew of charges including DWI and assault on an officer. A woman and a toddler were also in the truck with Bree. Both were taken to the hospital for minor injuries, as were two people in other cars.
The Environmental Protection Agency denies a request to waive ethanol mandates for several states including Arkansas. This year's drought hurt corn production and Governor Mike Beebe joined governors from several other states to ask for a renewable fuel standard waiver, saying it would hurt agricultural production. Congressman Steve Womack also supported the request. He responded to the decision saying since the EPA failed to act, Congress needs to do so.
Senator John Boozman is making a stop in our neck of the woods Tuesday. The Senator will be at the Crisis Intervention Center in Fort Smith at 9:30 Tuesday morning to visit with leaders from the center, as well as state legislators to talk about the programs that help victims of abuse. At 2:30, Senator Boozman will tour American Vegetable, Soybean & Edamame Inc. in Mulberry. The plant opened earlier this year and is the nation's first location in the country dedicated to the receiving, processing, packaging and shipping of edamame, making it the Edamame Capital of the U.S.
Donating food to reduce your overdue library fees! It's a popular program and Tuesday morning, Fayetteville Public Library will announce how much food you donated in its "Food For Fees" fundraiser. For each can or package donated, you get a one dollar credit on your library account. Last year, the library collected almost 2,700 pounds of food and helped feed 600 people in the month of December. The library will announce this year's results at 10:00 a.m.
Ready or not, Black Friday lines have already started to form! In Fort Smith, folks are already lining up and camping out at Best Buy and they've been there a few days! Some of the people we spoke with say they started camping out on Friday! One person even telling us he's prepared to spend $2,500 on a new TV.
