LAS VEGAS - Junior Coty Clarke grabbed a game high 11 rebounds for the University of Arkansas men's basketball team on Saturday night, but a huge second half by #24 Wisconsin edged the Razorbacks, 77-70, in the final game of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational.
Sophomore guard BJ Young scored 18 points and picked up five boards and while Clarke recorded his second double-digit rebounding game of the season with his 11, seven on the offensive glass. Along with Young, junior guard Mardracus Wade also had a double-digit scoring game with 13 points.
The Razorbacks took their first lead in the opening half after Madden made a layup to make the score 15-13 with 13:30 remaining. The Razorbacks made a statement at the 12:20 mark as Williams came up with a big steal to drive it to the basket for Arkansas. Just eight seconds later Coty Clarke took it away from the Badgers and Rickey Scott scored on a layup after an assist from Dequavious Wagner. The Razorbacks would take their largest lead of the game at that point, five.
With 9:38 remaining the Hogs would hold the Badgers scoreless over a span of 4:22 on the clock as Arkansas went on a 7-0 run to make the score 29-18. Arkansas would keep up the pressure, going toe-toe with the Badgers as both teams would score 11 to close the half 40-29.
Wade and Young would lead Arkansas in scoring in the first half with 10 points apiece. Young and Clarke would lead on the boards with four in the first half. The Badgers led the Razorbacks with 25 rebounds in the first compared to 13 Razorback boards. However, Arkansas capitalized on the eight Badger turnovers, scoring 13 points. Arkansas committed just two turnovers in the first half
The second half would be a different story for Arkansas as Wisconsin chipped away at the Arkansas lead with consecutive three-point baskets at the start of the second half to make the score 40-35, bringing Wisconsin within five. Arkansas would hold the Badgers from taking the lead until the 8:12 mark in the second half when they went up 55-53. Arkansas would not be able to retake the lead for the remainder of the game.
The Razorbacks however, would out-rebound the Badgers in the second half, 21-14 after being out-rebounded in the first 25-13.
The Razorbacks return to the court on Friday, Nov. 30, at Bud Walton Arena to face No. 6 Syracuse at 7:30 p.m., a game that will be televised on ESPN
