The 2012 season opened with championship aspirations for the Razorbacks, those aspirations were long gone by week two when the Hogs dropped their first game in Little Rock since 2006, falling to UL-Monroe 34-31 in overtime.

With Tyler Wilson on on the sideline Arkansas faced Alabama a week later, suffering the worst home loss in school history to Alabama 52-0.

The Hogs righted the ship following losses to Rutgers and Texas A&M winning games against Auburn and Kentucky, but eventually the stage proved to be a bit to bright for John L. Smith as the Razorbacks limped to 4-8 finish with just two wins in SEC play against teams who finished a combined 0-16 in league play.
